RJ45: 8P8C = 8 Position 8 Contact
RJ12: 6P6C = 6 Position 6 Conductor
RJ11: 6P4C = 6 Position 4 Conductor

Ale proč 45, 12 a 11?

Díky za případné objasnění.

Just to clarify a few things. RJ-45 refers to a specific wiring of a modular 8 position connector. What we now refer to RJ45 is actually an 8 position 8 conductor (8P8C) modular connector (there are plug and jack or male and female versions). There are many 8P8C wiring configurations, such as RJ32, RJ61 and of course RJ45.. The connectors are wired differently to account for what type of service/signal is being transmitted over the line. For some reason, I assume because it was the most popular from AT&T, the 8P8C became known as the RJ45. Similarly the RJ11 is the same story but for an 6P6C connector.

The story behind the actual number comes from these connectors being Registered Jacks by the FCC. Supposedly most of these connector/wiring configurations came from AT&T and Mil Spec and were adopted by the FCC to allow for standardization across the telecom industry and allow for competition with AT&T. They were not especially creative with the names and just numbered them up theline.
