Whenever I boot up my Win98 machine now, a screen appears that reads, "Please check the signal cable."

The "Please Check the Siginal Cable" message is usually displayed due to the monitor not getting a siginal from the computer video out. Check that the cable from the monitor to the video output is attached securly to the back of the monitor.
