If a fault occurs within the first 6 months of purchase, it is assumed that is was there at the time of sale. Also important for consumers is that after this period of six months they are still protected against faulty products. In Ireland within six years from delivery of the goods the trader still can be held liable for any lack of conformity. However, it is then up to the consumer to prove that the lack of conformity existed at the time of delivery. If you are not satisfied with the seller's response you may be able to take a claim to the Small Claims Court.
The presumption underlying the new EU rules is only,that you have two years to make a case. But, by irish law this period is 6 years as I mentioned above.
