I bought a sim card here two days ago from Comcel. It cost less that one pound (3000 pesos). I only needed a copy of my passport to buy it although I did have to give an address here in Bogota.. I`m sure the address of a hostel would do.

You will need a tri band phone which is unlocked to put the sim card in.

For some reason my spanish sim card won't work here though I think it did last time I was here two years ago.

Your UK phone should work here for phone calls (but not always text messages) if you have roaming. Check will your supplier. However I think you will find it expensive. Remember you pay the cost of the call from the UK to Colombia on all calls you recieve as well as the cost of the calls you make. And if you are making calls from Colombi ato Colombia with it you will pay the cost of the call from Colombia to the UK and back again.

If you wish to buy a sim card, go to a comcel shop and ask for s "chip de prepago". When you need to top it up, you can do this at places like supermarkets and internet cafes. Ask for "una carga".
