Are there ways to optimize my TWS configuration to improve performance?
There are many factors that play a role in your Trader Workstation performance: CPU speed, memory allocation, complexity of settings, size of portfolio, number of accounts being managed, anti-virus being used, system permissions, network configurations, etc. Below are some basic steps that you can take to optimize TWS for performance.

If you find that your platform is locking up/freezing (e.g. the clock in the main window stops updating), you may want to consider the following.

Increasing the memory allocated to TWS from the default to something more substantial. To increase the amount of memory allocated to the TWS navigate to Edit > Global Configuration > General menu and update the Memory Allocation (in MB) field. The additional suggested memory allocation is 1536 MB, which is double the default but should not be too high for most systems, see the TWS Users' Guide for further guidance. IMPORTANT: Do not exceed the available (RAM) your system with other applications running or it may also impact the performance of your computer.
Close any windows, remove any unused chart studies, lists, workspace tabs (at the bottom of the main window) and tools that you do not use regularly.
Unlink any windows that do not need to all update at the same time for the same ticker (the chain link in the top right corner of each window controls this based on the color selected).
Consider when the issue started happening and if anything in particular change or occurs around the same time (e.g. update, anti-virus system scan, market open etc.) and if possible, see if the issue occurs on another machine/operating system.
If the issue only occurs on one machine, it may be related to the Operating System version, other software running on the machine (e.g. Anti-virus, Firewall or VPN changes) or permissions (e.g. Mac OS requires certain system permissions to allow for full functionality for our in-app JX Browser to be allowed etc.).
If possible, also check to see if the issue occurs on all versions of TWS. To quickly switch between TWS versions select File >Change Version (make note of the version that is greyed out because that is the version you are currently using and is impacted) and try the other two versions. Note: If you do not have this option, go to our website and download any of the current versions of TWS that are not labeled "Offline".
If the slowness/issue only occurs on specific versions of TWS, we recommend that you notify our Technical Assistance Center via Web Ticket (Help > Customer Service > Open Message Center menu) at your earliest convenience so they can assist in collecting the necessary information to escalate the issue to our engineers to review and address.
